Title : Chemistry of 31 and 7 (GaN): Game changer in silicon valley

Abstract:

The significance of gallium-based nanocages in numerous electrical and optical applications has recently brought them a great deal of attention. Wide-band gap semiconductor (Eg = 3.4 eV) gallium nitride (GaN) is regarded as a desirable material for BV cells due to the excellent energy conversion efficiency and radiation resistance that GaN-based BV cells can achieve. In continuation of our expertise in nanomaterials, 1-3 we intend to offer synthetic methods of various GaN composites as an alternative to the Si, applications in current semiconductor sectors or related fields, the potential of GaN in the future, and a discussion of its drawbacks in this conference.

Because of the limitations and reducing quantity of silicon (Si) in earth, there is necessity for alternatives and need for semiconductor elements as substitute for currently exploited Si. Gallium nitride is an increasingly popular replacement for silicon components in electrical devices, thanks to a wider band gap than silicon. That means it can sustain higher voltages at higher temperatures with faster electrical current than the traditional material. Those properties make it perfect for things like ultra-small chargers. In addition, scope of nano GaN and dopants to enhance more conduction will be discussed. Already in market, nano GaN chargers are being introduced by Anker and a 20% increase in working efficiency is proved (Figure 1). These chargers translate to less heat and appear to be smaller chargers than before. In this talk, structural, physical and chemical properties of gallium (Ga) will be briefed.
